The Read Out Loud Tour

a public art installation by ear to the ground collective, 2010

The Read Out Loud tour draws upon the relationship between the historical past and the unwritten future, encouraging participation, imagination, and discussion as the foundation of an enriched community

  1. 1. to look at or view with continued attention; observe or study thoughtfully

2. to consider thoroughly; think fully or deeply about

3. to have as a purpose; intend.

As part of the Carnegie Days Festival, the artist collective Ear to the Ground has created this, and three other “word sculptures,” installed at Rogers Television Simcoe County, MacLaren Art Centre, and Southshore Community Centre in Barrie, ON. These are made entirely out of reclaimed materials from local thrift stores and stuffed with discarded paper and plastic.

The Read Out Loud Shuttle Bus is a mobile exhibition that celebrates literature and the library, drawing upon the relationship between our historical past and the unwritten future, encouraging participation, imagination, and discussion as the foundations of an enriched community.
